What is Format Background?
The Format Background option is available in the Design tab of MS PowerPoint. If we want to add a custom color or theme to our slides instead of the themes in the Design tab, we will use the format background option.
Features:
With the format background we can apply the background to our slides:
➤ A single color (solid fill).
➤ Multi color (gradient fill).
➤ Picture.
➤ Texture.
➤ Pattern Fill.

How to change the slides background?
➤ Select the slide
➤ Go to Design tab
➤ Click Format Background
Solid Fill
If you want to have a solid color on the slide, you will use the Solid Fill option.
➤ Go to Format background
➤ Click Solid fill
➤ Click on the color icon and select the color
➤ This will change the color of your slide

Gradient Fill
If you want to have more than one color on the same slide, use the gradient fill option. When you click on Gradient Fill, here you will see 4 Gradient stops.

Here you will click each stop individually and select its color with the help of color icons. Then select Preset, Type, Direction and Angle to make it more beautiful.

This will make your slide in multiple colors.
Note:
In gradient fill you can apply different colors and designs to each slide and if you want to apply the same formatting to all the slides, click on "Apply to All" at the bottom of the format background.
